Psychology Master's Degree

The graduate program in Psychology is composed of the Maestría en Psicología Clínica and the Doctorado en Psicología.

Recognition of Official Validity of Studies by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), 2005297 dated on May 27, 2005.

The program is aimed at all professionals who have completed a Licenciatura program in Psychology with Recognition of Official Validity of Studies (RVOE).

The objective of the Maestría en Psicología Clínica is that the student masters Psychotherapy in one of two models: psychodynamic or systemic, thus acquiring the necessary competences for clinical intervention in different populations.

Once the Maestría en Psicología Clínica has been completed, in the Doctorate the student will bring together all of the acquired knowledge and experience into the design and implementation of innovative projects which revolutionize and substantially modify his or her practice in the field of Psychotherapy, Mental Health and Prevention, achieving an integral and profound development of his or her professional competences.

The Maestría en Psicología Clínica is designed to enable the student to integrate into his or her professional project all of the theoretical knowledge and practical experiences which allow him or her to train as a psychotherapist and obtain positive results with a higher effectiveness, efficiency and depth in his or her field of work.

Enrollment Profile:

Applicants interested in studying this program must meet the following requirements:

English reading comprehension of 80%

Completed a Licenciatura program in Psychology

In terms of knowledge, applicants to the program must possess knowledge of the following:

  • Basic psychological processes
  • Theories of personality
  • Psychological tests
  • Basic elements of psychotherapy
  • Psychological development
  • Clinical interview

In regard to skills and abilities, demonstrate:

  • The ability to empathize
  • Sensitivity to other people’s problems
  • Capability for making diagnoses
  • Use of theoretical and practical knowledge to practice as therapists applying different psychological intervention techniques  either psychodynamic or systemic postmodern.
  • Experience in carrying out clinical interviews

In regard to attitudes, the applicant must show an inclination toward:

  • Commitment and responsibility toward those who require his or her services
  • A willingness to study and to acquire new knowledge

Objective

The Maestría en Psicología Clínica program has the objective of training psychotherapists who are capable of evaluating and diagnosing persons who require some type of psychological attention as well as of carrying out clinical interventions following the models of psychotherapy and implementing innovative projects in the field of Psychotherapy, Mental Health and Prevention.

Professional Competences of the Graduate:

Development of Clinical Abilities in:

  • Diagnosis
  • Therapeutic Alliance
  • Monitoring of Psychological cases

Development of Abilities in Psychotherapy:

Review of knowledge and development of abilities for psychological treatments following two of the classical approaches that characterize psychology: Systemic Model, Psychodynamic Model.

Practices:

The student will use the therapeutic competences and clinical abilities acquired throughout the program during 480 hours of practice, given that the program has agreements with real scenarios such as:

 

 Research Project:

Mentoring and counseling for the development of abilities and resources for conducting the professional research project proposed by the student

Development of Dissemination and Professional Communication Skills:

Creation of Psychological texts following the guidelines of this discipline (American Psychological Association), as well as presentation of papers in conferences and symposia.
