This Licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales Degree trains you as a bilingual professional, with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to understand international relations and perform professionally in areas linked with politics, diplomacy, economy, and international trade and finance.

What does a graduate Bachelor Degree International Relations do?

The bilingual professional training that the Universidad de las Américas, Mexico City offers will allow you to work in:

  • Political, diplomatic, economic and business activities.
  • International trade and finance activities.
  • Social and economic development multilateral bodies.
  • Non-governmental entities.
  • Consulting in international matters for different institutions or corporations.
  • Research and academic institutions.

Objective

  • Training bilingual professionals with knowledge, skills and abilities in the areas of International Relations, Consular Aspects, Foreign Policy and International Trade, with capabilities to:

    • Support legal and administrative tasks in a Consulate
    • Design Public Policy in the subject of International Relations
    • Perform international trade transactions, including logistics and customs operation
    • Develop negotiation plans for both import and export of goods and services
  • Instill in the graduate values and attitudes that motivate him or her attitudes to perform his or her professional activities ethically and responsibly, making decisions for the benefit of his or her work environment, evidencing at all times professionalism, honesty and social responsibility

Enrollment Profile

To enroll into this program, the applicant shall comply with the general requisites of admission to the University, as well as with the following specific characteristics:

  • Openness and sensitivity for the matters that mark the history of nations
  • Commitment with the country, with the historical context and with change actions for the benefit of society
  • An attitude of respect and tolerance towards personal, physical, cognitive and ideological differences, as well as diverse beliefs or convictions

Graduation Profile

The professional graduate from the Licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales will have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities that enable him or her to understand the international context, international relations and foreign policy in which Mexico is inserted; likewise, he or she will understand business within a global context and the operations of international trade.

Therefore, at the time of completion, the graduate will have acquired the following knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities:

Knowledge:

  • About International Relations and Mexican Foreign Policy, taking into consideration diplomatic, consular and international business aspects.
  • About the structure and operation of international agencies.
  • About the capacities and powers of the federal agencies involved in International Relations.
  • About the creation and operation of import and export corporations.
  • About international trade and its transactions.
  • About logistics and customs operations.
  • About the research methodological tools applicable to the international sphere.

In order to be able to apply the foregoing knowledge, the graduate shall possess sufficient skills for:

  • Spoken and written communication.
  • Communication in a second and even a third language.
  • Analysis of the purposes of international organizations.
  • Analysis of foreign policy issues.
  • International conflict discussion and solution.
  • Analysis and application of the regulations of international relations.
  • Understanding of the regulations of international business.
  • Implementation of international business strategies.

The graduate shall display the following attitudes:

  • Community service, taking into account the public interest, social needs and private benefits.
  • Social responsibility.
  • Ethics during his or her professional performance.
  • Critical evaluation of his or her job.

  • Analytic thought for topics related to international business and relations.

The graduate shall demonstrate possession of abilities to:

  • Execute administrative activities in International Agencies.
  • Apply administrative and operative tasks related to International Relations.
  • Prepare performance and vulnerability diagnosis for International Business projects.
  • Apply international contracting strategies.
  • Analyze cases of economic and political conflict at government level.
  • Analyze cases of commercial and international transactions from the private standpoint.
  • Analyze economic and financial variables to execute imports and exports.
  • Distinguish between international logistics and customs operations.
  • Determine negotiation mechanisms to resolve conflicts at the international level.
  • Analyze strategies that allow knowledge about the way international relations are designed.
